Comment Policy For Feminists Opposed to Pornography (FOP)

I am happy to receive comments on my blog from veteran and new readers alike, and take the time to read all of your comments. In order to ensure that comments enhance and do not detract from the blog, I have copied and edited with permission the following formal comment policy. (Credit is given at the bottom)

Comment Moderation

All comments, trackbacks, and pingbacks made to the FOP blog will be marked and held for moderation after clicking the submit button. In order to maintain the integrity and seriousness of the blog/its content, I will review all comments, links, pictures, videos, etc. If any comments contain spam related material, as the site admin of FOP I will mark the comment without notice as spam since I reserve the right to do so as the site admin. Any comments that contain two or more links are marked for moderation by default. This helps cut down on the spam from being published immediately.

Language, Length, and Format

Feminists Opposed to Pornography contains an audience that deals with the sensitive issue of pornography. The audience is mainly composed of pornography addicts, both current and former, and the loved ones of pornography addicts. That said, please avoid harsh language and the use of profanity. Flaming or use of threatening language is not allowed, nor will it be tolerated, and those comments will be marked for deletion without notice. If an entry gets you fired up, excited, or makes you think so deeply that the words pour from you like an overflowing fountain, consider publishing it as a thought on your blog and trackback. If trackback is disabled, you are welcome to leave a comment summarizing your entry with a link to continue reading it. Ideally, your comment will be under 200 well-chosen words with paragraphs as necessary; white-space makes the content easier to read on a computer screen.

Linking To Your Site and Others

As previously mentioned, this blog deals with sensitive issues, but WordPress allows for the posting of links. Despite the nature of this blog, I trust you guys to be appropriate with the links you post. WP.com uses the  rel=”nofollow” attribute by default.  Please don’t view this as an opportunity to promote or advertise your website in the FUAP comment section. Excessive or inappropriate links will become removed. Some tips for proper linking:

  • Please use proper XHTML markup: <a href=”…” title=”…”>Link Anchor Text</a>
  • Please use descriptive anchor text
    • Bad: <a href=”…”>click here</a>
    • Good: <a href=”…” title=”Google Homepage”>google’s homepage</a>
  • Please keep the anchor text brief (6 words or less per link)

Double check your links, because any link which returns an error, leads to a site under construction, or cannot be loaded by the browser leads to spam or malware will be removed.

Signatures In Comments

Adding a signature is completely unacceptable. Plain and simple it looks tacky, You are welcome to add your website’s link in the designated URL box just below your name and e-mail address, and your name will automatically become hyperlinked.

Please make sure to use your name,  nickname, or online handle, in the name field. I really don’t feel comfortable addressing someone as “@Anonymous” etc. when responding to a comment. Otherwise, I’ll delete the reference to your website if no reference to who you are is added in the name field.

Subscribing To Comments Via E-mail

In order to receive notification of comments left after yours, it is essential that you provide a valid and working e-mail address. To sign up for comments, make sure to leave the check mark next to “Notify me of follow-up comments via e-mail” before submitting your comment. If you have a WP.com account, you will be notified of follow-up comments if  you decide to leave a comment via the notification section of your WP.com admin bar.

E-mail Addresses

Please use a valid e-mail address when commenting on the blog. It will not be displayed unless you type it in the body of your comment and you will not be subscribed to any mailing list by leaving a comment. If you use an invalid e-mail address or one which requires any type of human interaction to confirm I’m not a spammer, your comment will be deleted — no exceptions.

Editing Comments

I reserve the right to edit or delete comments as I feel necessary. Blatant spelling will be edited, but grammatical errors will not be edited so double check your spelling before you click the submit button. Serious edits will be notated at the end of the comment. If your comment conveys a coherent thought, it may just be edited; tirades will most likely be deleted. At no time will I attempt to alter the core meaning of a comment.

Final Words

You, and only you are responsible for your words posted on the Feminists Opposed to Pornography blog. They are yours, and you get to keep them, however, by posting your comments to the blog you are granting me the right, in perpetuity, to use, alter, and/or display them however I see fit. Once your comment is submitted, that’s it — you’re immortalized. (From time to time, this comment policy may be updated, so please make sure to check back every so often.)
